Tell Me More

88 miles of bargeable waterway crossing the England-Wales border, the Llangollen Canal is rightly famed for Teflord's ‘stream in the sky’, the vertiginous and barely-pronounceable Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The River Dee, connecting the Welsh Marches to Snowdonia, has some great rafting. The river and canal near Llangollen belong to the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley AONB, one of the finest (but less visited) landscapes in Wales. Offa’s Dyke and the accompanying national trail pass through. Highest point: Moel Famau (562m).

The essential journey here is the Offa's Dyke Path, one of Britain's national trails, a brilliant route connecting the north and south coasts of Wales alongor close to the English border.

View from Mynydd y Gaer (to the Plâs-uchaf reservoir)...

Read all about the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct World Heritage site. Of course, the BBC's Ramblings podcast has been to these parts, the Clwyd Hillforts to be precise. Great cycling intel from Ride North Wales.
